Sometimes altitude determines attitude. An upper level weather maker today may bring you down today, as it generates clouds, light showers, and the coolest high temperature in Indy since the first half of May. The upper level low will move in from the west and southwest, and that’s where the rain will begin first. Terre Haute and Lafayette may see the showers end by noon. Lafayette will be right behind, and the threat of rain should end in central Indiana – including Indy – by the time afternoon drive begins. The chance will continue until just before sunset in Muncie and Richmond, but you might see the showers really kick in until mid to late morning. Those high altitudes are characterized right now by a typically Autumnal “fast flow.” That means clearing by late this evening and a sunny start Friday. We’ll get close to normal temperatures tomorrow and just a few clouds in the afternoon. Don’t get used to it. Another cold front will arrive, with more scattered showers possible from after midnight Friday night until early afternoon Saturday. Only about a tenth of inch is expect from both today’s and Saturday’s rain events. But our fast flow spells more shots at showers Monday and Wednesday next week. And an even cooler package is about to be delivered by Thursday and Friday of next week, with the potential of our first widespread frost of the season. The average date for a first widespread frost? It’s October 9 in Lafayette, October 12 in Muncie, October 16 in Indy, and October 24 in Bloomington. So we’re due:) INDY ALMANAC: Today’s average high is 65 and the average low is 44. Records are 86 and 26. The sun rises at 7:58 and it sets at 7:03. PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION: Yesterday’s afternoon high was 62. My forecast was 62.
