We’re in a rut, but it’s a good rut. And the rut is ridge-related. It’s a ridge of high pressure that’s got a grip on most of the Midwest. The resulting clear skies and dry air mass have caused wide spreads between highs and lows recently. Our morning lows have been about, or a little below average. Our afternoon highs have been about, or a little above average. Those afternoon highs will continue the steady build again today. Expect mid 70s in RIchmond, Muncie, and Indy to mid to upper 70s in Lafayette, Terre Haute, and Bloomington. So far October is running about 6 degrees above average overall in Indy. If that were to hold the entire month it would easily be the warmest month of the year compared to average. There might be a few high cirrus clouds into Terre Haute and Lafayette westward this afternoon, but that’s about it. Mostly sunny weather will continue until Saturday afternoon. The ridge begins to break, allowing a surface cold front to make its move starting late Saturday night. Shower chances will be around after midnight and into Sunday. But it won’t be like last Sunday. I don’t think we’ll see more than a quarter-inch of precipitation in central Indiana. Next week will be more active, with rain chances returning Tuesday and Wednesday.
