Clouds and humidity will both decrease for Labor Day. If you’re spending some holiday time on the water today, you may notice the levels are low. Local reservoirs were approaching a foot below normal levels. The most recent U.S. Geological Survey Water Watch indicated below normal stream flow for much of central and southern Indiana. This included the entire Wildcat Creek watershed, all of the White River downstream of Indianapolis and the entire East Fork White River. Indy got about a third of an inch of rain Saturday night, meaning Indy got about a third of normal precipitation in the month of August. The average is 3.13 and this year’s total was 1.15. By the way, that rain ended a stretch of three weeks in Indianapolis with no measurable precipitation. The August rain total for Lafayette was 2.09 inches and it was 2.27 in Muncie. Over 2.50 fell in Richmond, according to radar estimates. All totals were below average Some areas saw much more, especially those hit by storms Friday and Saturday. What little severe weather occurred in the month happened at the beginning and end of it. Several thunderstorms produced large hail and damaging winds, particularly across Putnam and Vermillion Counties, and also across the western Indianapolis metro area. It may be some time before we get gusty again. INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 82 and the average low is 62. Records are 100 and 45. The sun rises at 7:14 and the sun sets at 8:14.
