Don’t tell The Weather Channel, but I have OFFICIALLY named last night’s snow storm “FLUFFY.” Fluffy’s official total at the Indy Airport was 4.5 inches, as of 7:20 Saturday morning.
One thing I saw while tracking online during Friday night’s storm that I didn’t on Wednesday: many references to it being “pretty.” I guess the lack of 35 mph wind gusts (and having to debate whether or not is was a blizzard) was a big factor in that. Also: the band of persistent snow around parts of Metro Indy didn’t set up until after the afternoon rush hours.
Another difference between Wednesday and Friday, as pointed out by Facebook friend Dwayne Butcher: “VERY light, fluffy snow.” The stuff I shoveled Wednesday seemed pretty wet and heavy. BTW: Dwayne already measured 4 inches in Fishers by 10pm. Which brings up another difference…a busted forecast! (At least, for some.)
A thin band of heavy snow set up for a few hours between Muncie, then along I-69 into Hamilton County, into Indy’s north and west sides, including 4-5 inch reports from Broad Ripple into Speedway and Brownsburg. Amounts were higher than expected in part because of this burst of snow.
Here’s a nice graphic via WISH TV of the totals. Click here for their full story.
And Lafayette and other points northwest? Don’t get a complex, but you were on the short end of the snow stick for the second time this week.
Snow showers are still possible today, mainly this morning and mainly north and east of Indy. The next potential precipitation maker hits New Years Eve and New Years Day.
