Mister Poteet says prepare!
A potent precipitation producer pounces Thursday.
The low-pressure system is coming together today in the southern Plains and will spread east tonight. Rain chances start late tonight and continue into Thursday morning and midday. The rain may become more scattered in the afternoon. There could even be rumbles of thunder. Winds will be howling, gusting to at least 40 mph. A half-inch to 1 inch of rain is possible. If it were all snow, we could put Bing Crosby on “repeat” right now.
Sometime around sunset Thursday the rain will switch to snow as colder air digs in. An inch of snow is likely for much of central Indiana. The low-pressure system will move to the northeast Friday, but lake-effect snow from those high winds will still be whipping around South Bend. A winter storm watch is in place there, and totals up to 5 inches are possible by Friday afternoon.
We may catch snow showers off Lake Michigan north and northeast of Indianapolis on Friday, so from Muncie to Marion northward another inch may be possible, for totals closer to 2 inches.
The weekend is cold and dry, but wait! Santa Paul spies another shot at snow (or rain) Christmas Eve night and Christmas Day. This is getting interesting.
