I hate to bring up North/South divisions just as the whole country is enjoying that “Lincoln” movie so much…but sometimes the weather divides us. And why does it always involve I-70?
From around the Interstate southward is where you’ll find the best chances of a few rain and snow showers. Accent on a few. But go farther south – closer to the Ohio River – and you’ll find better chances. We may miss the precipitation in Central Indiana, but we won’t dodge the clouds, which will increase today.
Precipitation will spread from southwest to northeast across the Ohio River Valley late this afternoon. Although precipitation is expected to start out as all rain, some areas across southern Indiana and north central Kentucky may change over to a rain/snow mix or a brief period of all snow overnight through around sunrise Tuesday morning. As a result, light snow accumulations may occur Tuesday morning mainly on grassy and elevated surfaces from around Louisville to Lexington, and the Indiana counties along the Ohio River from Louisville eastward.
The southern system could spawn severe thunderstorms today across eastern Texas, southern Arkansas and northern and western Louisiana. Initially, the primary risk will be large hail, but damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will also be possible as the day progresses.
Indianapolis saw the lowest high temperature since last Spring on Saturday. Although we recovered to the 40s yesterday, and will be there today, we are still a little below average. That will change starting Thursday. Looks like a mild stretch just in time for the weekend, but stay tuned for shower chances.
