Some fog is on the early morning menu for Thanksgiving Day 2012, but it won’t stay as long today. Winds will stir the weather pot by midday, gusting to around 20 mph by this afternoon and tonight. That removes one key fog factor..
Weather number crunchers love Thanksgiving because we have two different sets of numbers to play with. There are the figures for November 22, and also the figures for Thanksgiving in general. The record high temperature happens to be the same for both categories: 74 degrees.
It won’t be that warm today, but it should reach the low to mid 60s, which is well above the average Thanksgiving high of 46 in Indianapolis. Could be a lot colder. A trace of snow fell in 2007, 2009, and 2010.
Today marks the tenth annual running of Wheeler Mission’s “Drumstick Dash” in Broad Ripple. I can remember some pretty chilly turkey trots along that course, so I’m happy about today’s forecast. I think we will all finish before the wind starts kicking in this afternoon. Temps for the race will rise from the low to mid 40s at the start to the 50’s by the time everyone takes off for the day.
This heat won’t last as long as your leftovers. It’s gone tomorrow. Blame a cold front arriving late this evening and overnight. It will bring some rain that should be gone by the time the Malls open Friday morning.
Going to the Tree Lighting Downtown Friday? The 6pm weather should be mostly clear, Winds could still be up around 15 mph, and with temps near 35 that means chils closer to 25. Of course, there IS a lot of body heat down there…
THANKSGIVING COAST TO COAST:
Strong winds will also develop across the northern and central Great Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley today.
