Mister Weatherman is thankful that the Holiday Week looks mellow and mild for Indiana.
Yesterday officially broke a string of six consecutive below normal days in Indianapolis. Most of this month has been below normal.
And dry. There’s been 1.07″ of precipitation this month, which is 1.12″ below average. A cold front approaching from the west will lose steam on its way here tomorrow, so MAYBE a sprinkle Tuesday, but the main thing will be clouds tomorrow, and then right back to the sun Wednesday.
Did you finish hanging Christmas lights this weekend? It was lights OUT in Barrow Alaska. The sun won’t be back until the last week in January. Barrow is the northernmost community in the United States. I think if you go there you see snowmen that talk like Burl Ives. THAT’S pretty far North.
If you’re leaving town today or tomorrow for the holiday, there won’t be any major travel problems east of the Rockies. The stormiest part of the country the next few days will be the West. The heaviest rain will be from Seattle to the California coast, where up to 5 inches is possible.
Most of the USA will see above average temperatures this week. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s from Texas to Florida all the way through Thanksgiving. We’ll be an easy ten degrees above average for the day. Thanksgiving’s average high in Indy (keeping in mind the holiday appears on different dates every year) is 46. The average low is 30.
I remember a recent Thanksgiving morning in the 20s very clearly, since I’ve taken to running Wheeler Mission’s Drumstick Dash every year. I’m pleased to tell over 10,000 fellow runners that race-time temps should be in the low-mid 40s this year, with no rain or snow.
Thanksgiving Day itself should be quite nice in the Midwest. A cold front will approach by afternoon, so we might start clouding up post-feast, especially in the northwest third of Indiana. Rain chances are in place for Thursday night and Friday morning, before the cold front sweeps through and we go dry through the Weekend. The cold front will knock down Friday highs (I prefer to say “the highs are discounted”) into the low 50s and we’ll only get into the 40s by Saturday and Sunday.
