Who can really unite our country? Mister Weatherman, of course!
I’ll do it by bringing in an upper level disturbance over northern Montana and combining it with some moisture straight from the Gulf Of Mexico. You may not get a chicken in every pot, but there should be some water in every rain gauge tonight in Indiana.
Up to an inch of rainfall is possible by early Thursday morning in the western half of the state, and at least three-quarters of an inch is expected in Indianapolis, where the official rainfall deficit is just under two inches.
The upper level low will drag a surface cold front through the state late tonight. Ahead and along the front, expect rain. There could be some rumbles of thunder. No severe weather is expected here, but the Storm Prediction Center does indicate a slight risk of severe storms from southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, the western tips of Kentucky and Tennessee, much of Mississippi, northern Louisiana and nearly all of Arkansas. Damaging winds are the biggest threat.
Rain should shut down pretty quickly Thursday morning. The wind will be frisky both today and tomorrow, with wind gusts up to 35 mph.
The cold front leaves behind colder temps tomorrow and Friday, and one more wave of low pressure rotating through late Thursday and Friday produces precipitation again. Expect a cold rain to finish the work week. The timing appears good for a good weekend.
