You’ll notice a wicked westerly wind today, the most noticeable change following a front that clipped the state early this morning. Behind the cold front both clouds and temperatures will decrease. Midday and afternoon gusts could reach 25-30 mph.
The front’s rain stayed mainly north of Indianapolis. South Bend recorded a third of an inch of precipitation. Less than a tenth of an inch fell in Fort Wayne.
Our high today will be almost ten degrees cooler than yesterday. But wait, there’s more! Or less, tonight. Frost will once again be possible. The National Weather Service has a Frost Advisory in place for early Thursday morning, but it’s only for parts of southeastern and southern Indiana. That’s for places like Columbus, Seymour and Greensburg. It won’t be any colder there – that’s merely a result of the widespread frost that happened over northern and central Indiana earlier this week. Once you’ve really had it, there’s not much point in Advising for it.
Sun rules Thursday, and another clipper arrives Thursday night. Looks like deja vu all over again. Little moisture, and an overnight ETA. If you work third shift you might see a sprinkle going or coming late Thursday night/early Friday morning.
Our attention shifts to storms this weekend. Warmer air will surge in Saturday. A likely scenario brings a cold front into the state later Saturday evening. A line of showers and storms is expected. We’re tapping a pretty frisky jet stream at that point, so there is also the potential for some severe weather.
If the timing works out, most of Saturday and Sunday day time could be dry. And mild! It’s possible we could go four days in a row above average on temperatures. That will be the first time this month. It only happened twice in September.
