Welcome to a Free Fall Friday. Temps will fall: about 25 degrees from late Thursday afternoon to late Friday afternoon. Precip will fall: about one-half to three-quarters of an inch is possible by late tonight, when it should end.
Temperatures will slide this afternoon, to around 50 by the Indianapolis rush hours.
A powerful cold front is directing the dive in much of the northern and central United States through this weekend. This cold Canadian air will bring a hard freeze as far south as the Central Plains by Saturday morning marking the end of the growing season. The cold front will eventually push through the remainder of the Plains to the East Coast this weekend. Snow could exceed a half a foot across southeastern Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle by Sunday morning!
We won’t have snow or a hard freeze in Indiana this weekend, but we will be frosty Sunday night going into Monday morning. I think the Indy metro area will have a dry weekend, but there could be some patchy showers Sunday from around South Bend into the northeast corner of the state, perhaps as far south as Marion and Muncie.
Expect a chilly Circle City Classic Parade, but it shouldn’t rain. Parade-time temps will rise from the low 40s to the mid 40s and a northwest wind will blow around 10 mph.
How…nice…was it yesterday? The Thursday high was 80 in South Bend and Terre Haute. It hit 79 in Evansville and 78 in Lafayette and Indy. The high was 77 in Muncie and Bloomington. One above average day. I’m not forecasting any more any time soon.
