Indianapolis’ very vanilla weather pattern continues, with nearly full sunshine and above average highs today and Thursday.
The timetable on the next cold front is now faster. That’s good. The rain will be gone by the weekend. I think it may already be outta here by Friday night, which is good news for Jason Mraz fans going to see the singer-songwriter at Klipsch Music Center. The ground might be a little wet.
You’ll be dry for the Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan show at the same location Saturday night.
Tailgating temps for the Colts-Vikings game Sunday will be rising through the 60s under a mostly sunny sky. I believe that merits a bratwurst for Mr. Weatherman if you happen to see me stroll by.
We won’t be cooking the temps anytime soon. After Friday’s front, it’s back to the 70s until further notice.
Looks like we’re done with triple-digit days. Unless we break a really big record. The latest 100-degree day in any year in Indy was Sept. 15, 1939.
So when did things change this summer? Looking back, it looks like Aug. 10. Indianapolis’ string of consecutive maximum temperatures of 80 degree or higher was broken on that day, when the high only reached 77 degrees. The string of 64 (!) days that began on June 7 is the second-longest stretch, second only to the 86-day stretch in 2002.
Not only is the sun now setting before 8 p.m., the average high drops below 80 starting today, and won’t return there until June 7 of next year. (Remember, we’re talking averages here.)
Are you ready for fall? The autumnal equinox is a week from Saturday. Period. (It’s nice to make one forecast that won’t change.)
