Storms could begin in the afternoon around South Bend and Lafayette, and continue into central Indiana by this evening.
The most exciting thing I’ve seen on television in my lifetime certainly wasn’t..me.
When I was a kid I remember those ghostly black and white pictures and the crackling, terse radio transmissions that marked television coverage of Apollo 11. I remember walking outside and looking at the moon to see if it looked different now.
RIP Neil Armstrong. It’s a long way from Wapakoneta (Ohio) to Tranquility Base (Moon.)
Actually Wapakoneta isn’t that far from where I grew up in Huntington County Indiana. Both places will have a mostly to partly sunny, hot late summer day today. Highs in the upper 80s.
Meanwhile, up on the Moon? Sorry, no appreciable atmosphere. That means temperature extremes that range from -250 degrees F in the dark to +250 degrees F in the light. I’m glad I don’t have THAT gig.
Back on Earth, another 90 degree day landed yesterday. Indy’s 92 degrees made it the warmest day in over two weeks, and means we’re now in third place for all time number of 90+ days in a year. We are closing in on the 58 day record, One Small Step at a time.
Showers and storms could fire in the western third of the state this afternoon, and throughout the state tonight and tomorrow. I’ve attached the five day precipitation forecast, and it looks light around here. Up to a foot of rain could fall in the southeast part of the country, as the season’s biggest tropical troublemaker (so far) moves in.
The remnants of Isaac *could* be an early Labor Day Weekend story for us. Too soon to know, but I’ve got storm chances in the forecast for Friday and Saturday.
Isaac is expected to get stronger today and tomorrow. It will move near or over the Florida Keys today and over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico by early Monday. Hurricane & Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings are in effect for much of the Florida coast.
Get continuing coverage of Isaac from the STAR’s sister publication, http://floridatoday.com, and directly from the National Hurricane Center at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/#ISAAC.
