Rain in the past 5 days has dented the drought. Hail Thursday night dented some cars.
And crops. The Storm Prediction Center reported that corn and soy beans were “completely stripped and flattened” for a five miles stretch in Dunn County, Wisconsin. Same thing happened in Winneshiek county Iowa.
With yesterday’s rain, August is already the second wettest month of 2012. Indy measured another 1.47 inches Thursday, AFTER .94 inches Wednesday night. We are almost 3 inches above average for the month, with a total of 3.92 inches.
Only the month of March, with 4.14 inches, is higher.
I’ve attached a graphic analyzing the last week of rain fall totals, and you can see widespread 2-4 inch amounts all over central Indiana.
It wasn’t *just* rain Thursday night. We were cooking egg-sized hail, and I’ve also attached pictures from Twitter follower @sylvia-g-miller and Facebooker Jackie Smith Sanders.
There were a couple of tornado warnings, but no confirmations via the Weather Service.
No more warnings now. The cold front has passed. And I mean cold! Today will be one of the coolest high temps we’ve had since it was 72 on June 2nd.
Highs will stay in the 60s around Muncie today. Expect some morning fog, then partly to mostly cloudy conditions, and a noticeable northwesterly breeze. There could be some scattered showers, especially north and northeast of Indianapolis.
The best weekend of summer (so far) is your payoff to all the recent weather drama.
From Twitter, @fyrefligh223 sums it up: Lol @PaulPoteet … 30’s the new 20 and August is turning into the new April #notcomplaining
