Halfway through the month, and halfway to passing the record of 90+ degree days in Indianapolis. The record is 58, from 1983. Today will be the 30th day this summer. BTW: That’s 30 more than the Summer of of 2004.
It should also be the 14th day of 95+ weather. We’re going to flirting with triple digits tomorrow. I’m forecasting highs of 99 in South Bend and Lafayette, so “C-Note Temperatures” are within the Margin Of Error.
Here’s one I’d overlooked: This morning should be the 19th consecutive low of 70+ in Indy. The record is 20 days, from 1921. Bank on it. The “highlight” of that stretch had to be the 81(!) degree low of a week ago last Saturday.
It never rains, it pours. Over the weekend: nothing for Mister Weatherman. A “trace” at the Indy Airport. Meanwhile…
2.11" South Bend (From Saturday---More than the month of June!) 1.19" Muncie (From Saturday---Biggest one day total since May 7th!) 0.72" Evansville (Two day total.)
Indy’s year to date precipitation total is 15.15 inches, which is about exactly half what we measured at this point last year. The normal number by mid July is 24.04 inches.
Maybe WE haven’t had any big storms, but the sun’s been busy. As the result of a big solar flare on July 12, skywatchers to the north this weekend have been sighting Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights. The closest report I got over the weekend was from Niles Michigan.
The bright pulsing, dancing lights of the aurora occur when electrically charged particles from the sun enter the Earth’s atmosphere. I’ve attached a pretty pic from Facebook this morning, taken near Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, by Laura Hedien.
