It’s the Weatherman Wedgie today – Indiana is sandwiched between and a stalled frontal system south of the Ohio River.
Upper level low pressure should ride along that front, and into Central Indiana Friday. The chances for widespread rain seem to be improving. We’ve had trouble tapping Gulf Of Mexico moisture this summer to help seed our showers, but this time the waterworks may be open. Friday’s chance is up to about 60 percent, with 40 percent chances Saturday and Sunday.
I’ve attached a 5 day precipitation forecast map. Up to six inches of rain could fall near Memphis. The south/southeast half of Indiana could go from 1-3 inches. That includes the recently-dry I-70 corridor, which would probably be closer to 1.25″
That’s a small dent in the drought. The year to date rain deficit in Indianapolis is 8.07 inches. But…ya gotta start somewhere.
Wednesday starts and ends with quiet, dry weather. Thursday starts that way, but ends with more clouds. Back to the low 90s both days, with little humidity. Don’t light a match.
There used to be the cliche “too good to be true.” Perhaps that’s been replaced by “NOT Photoshopped.” From Twitter, Andrea Kappler submitted the attached shot of a spectacular sunrise, punctuated by some “open heart surgery” on the clouds. (@winelover64 : @PaulPoteet #Sunrise in #Evansville #IN on 7/10/2012 NOT PhotoShopped! I saw it this AM while walking)
Also from Twitter: @evansindy says @PaulPoteet Woohoo! Thank you!!! I love Star at Sunrise. You’ve packed each article w/ some great stats lately!
So for you Brandon, this nugget: On this week back in 1913 – the hottest temperature ever recorded in the United States as well as the Western Hemisphere was reached. It was at Greenland Ranch in Death Valley, CA. The mercury soared to 134 degrees on July 10th!
There’s a reason they call it Death Valley.
