Another record will fall in Indy today, with the double threat of triple digits temperatures and ongoing drought. An Excessive Heat Warning doesn’t stop ’til Saturday Night, when a cold front arrives and brings storm chances into Sunday. And then – and then! NORMAL highs next week.
A couple of cities saw their first official 100 degree Independence Days, including South Bend, Milwaukee, Madison, and Paducah Kentucky. A record was also set in Evansville.
Indianapolis missed it by one, getting to 102. The record was 103, from 101 years ago. Got it?!
And speaking of that drought: Keep watering, although storms could fire on the northern edge of the “ring of fire” that I discussed last week. The bubble of hot air above us has moved back to the north, so the most likey spot for the storms is north and east of Indy this afternoon and early evening.
If they pop – they could drop big rain, and the Storm Prediction Center is indicating a slight risk for damaging winds and large hail. A storm yesterday finally nailed the Evansville Regional Airport with .41 of an inch within an hour. That’s the most rain they’ve seen since May 5!
