A FREEZE WATCH is up for 4-8am Monday morning. It’ll be close with lows expected right in the mid 30’s, maybe a little closer to freezing north of Indianapolis. Sunday doesn’t start quite as chilly, but it will still be below average today with respect to high temperatures.
There’s a sunshine squeeze play for Indiana today. A major storm system to the east and a minor one to the west means we’ve gotta fight for sunlight. The little area of low pressure to the west may slide some scattered light showers through the Evansville area today. The big low to the east could throw a few sprinkles back as far west as Richmond or Muncie late this afternoon or evening. But the vast majority of central Indiana will be dry today, with a mix of clouds and sun.
I have joked before that the reason I do radio weather in so many cities is that it increases the chance I might actually forecast correctly. Yesterday you got a more accurate prediction from me in Lafayette than in Indy. The deck of stratus clouds cleared from north to south more slowly than expected. Missed the high by 4 degrees (2, after revising at lunch time) in Indy.

COAST TO COAST:
Not a good time for a Weekend In New England. A storm system in the eastern Gulf of Mexico will merge and move northeast along a stationary front on the East Coast. As the disturbance intensifies, widespread light to moderate rain will develop over the Mid-Atlantic today and shift into New England on Monday. Heavy rainfall capable of flooding is possible today into Monday morning in southern New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic, where Flood Watches have been posted. This threat will shift into eastern Maine and New Hampshire during the day on Monday.
Meanwhile, moderate snow is likely for the Lower Great Lakes and central Appalachians tonight into Monday morning as colder air invades the region. The attached map shows a high risk of accumulating snow from southwest New York State down to West Virginia. By the way, the last Indianapolis saw measurable snow (it was still under an inch) was March 5. That was exactly one week before the Big March Heat began.
WIKI-POTEETIA:
This will be the 2nd consecutive day of Indianapolis highs in the 50’s, which has only happened one other time this month! All the other days were 60s, 70s, or the one 80 degree day we’ve had this month, back on April 3.
POLLEN COUNT:
The count goes back up today, just into the “High” category again. It will stay “High” through Tuesday, going up another notch Monday as wind speed increases again.
