The Henryville Indiana tornado is part of the first billion-dollar weather disaster of the year. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the March 2-3 tornado outbreak in the Midwest and Southeast killed 41 and caused $1.5 billion in damage. The global reinsurance company AON Bernfield puts the damage at $2 billion.
The Leap Day tornadoes in Illinois and southwest Indiana are responsible for 475 million of damage, which could easily be matched by the tornadoes that twisted through Dallas last week.
