Snap, crackle, POP for breakfast! A few morning drive storms have the potential to produce large hail. That comes with the first of a pair of cold front today. Number one brings the shower and storm chance through morning drive time, and number two eventually ushers in cooler air tonight and tomorrow. Fear not: the front comes back to the north as a warm front Friday, helping to raise temps again, and giving us an even better chance at widespread showers and storms to end the work week.
Bottom line? Most of today in central Indiana will be nice.
I’m not too concerned about the weekend, although low pressure could get hung up around Saturday, so let’s assume at least a slight storm chance then, and a nicer Sunday.
This morning is certainly a change from yesterday morning. 5am temps were in the upper 50’s to 60’s. It did get down to 32 Tuesday morning in Muncie and 31 in Ft. Wayne, but most places did no worse than the mid 30’s. Indy bounced back smartly, jumping from 36 to 66. A little perspective: even with the chillier start yesterday, we still haven’t had a day where the average temp is below normal since March 9. And we aren’t having another one any time soon.
We are one of the cities that is threatening previous records for the “warmest March.” Others? Chicago, Detroit, NYC, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Minneapolis, Kansas City and Washington, DC. Here’s a Denver (weather) Nugget. No measurable snow in Denver this month. The average is 11.5″ in March, typically the snowiest month of the year. With (mile-high) high temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s for the rest of the month…I think it’s safe to say another bit of history will be made from this year’s March Weather Madness.
