Hey Vern! It’s Spring! On the calendar now, as well as outside. The Vernal Equinox arrived at 1:14 this morning. The Indy temp at that time was 69.
The average Indianapolis high at the height of summer is 85.The forecast for the first day of Spring is 85. That will be the warmest EVER in the month, breaking a record from 1981. Doesn’t breaking records from the 20th century seem so lame, now? After all, today’s high temperature record dates to 1894, and it is…toast. Same with tomorrow.
First Day of Spring:
Phoenix AZ: Sunny. High 67.
Daytona Beach FL: Sunny. High 81.
Springtown IN (an unincorporated community in Hendricks County.) Partly to mostly sunny. High 85.
Facebook friend Kenneth Stout responded to my Indy forecast update earlier with this post:
“better weather than we have in San Diego today…”
Actually, I checked, and the entire 7 Day Forecast is warmer here, even after the “cool-down” this weekend.
That cool-down will still leave us with high temps running about 10 degrees above average.
MONDAY HIGHS:
84 Bloomington (old record was 68! from 2003)
84 Terre Haute (old record was 73 from 1979)
82 Fort Wayne (old record was 76 from 1921)
82 Lafayette (old record was 72 from 1976)
82 Evansville (old record was 81 from 1982)
82 Indianapolis (old record was 78 from 1921)
We have more streaks going than a college campus in 1974. Today is the Today will be the SEVENTH consecutive day of record breaking heat in parts of Indiana, including South Bend and Lafayette. It will be the NINTH consecutive day of 70+ weather in Indianapolis.
Unfortunately it will also be the second consecutive day of nasty weather in East Texas. Five inches of rain could fall today in that part of Texas, as well as the western half of Louisiana, the west half of Arkansas, and a sliver of eastern Oklahoma. Severe storms and tornadoes are possible again Tuesday.
That trough of low pressure is Stuck In The Middle of the country until Thursday, which means shower and storm chances for us starting Thursday night, peaking on Friday, and lingering into Saturday.
It is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana, with the annual Statewide Tornado Test Drill coming in the 10am and 7pm hours tomorrow.
