Problems from precipitation greeted motorists early Monday. A little overnight snow translated to lots of issues with black ice. In fact, the National Weather Service around Dayton, Ohio, and Cincinnati issued a winter weather advisory for this morning based on that icing.
The Alberta clipper that clipped Indiana with a little snow swings southeastward, but there’s still lingering Lake Effect around Michigan City and Laporte, where they will end up with total of up to 7 inches as it ends this morning. There is a connection between that and metro Indy. Flurries from that Lake Effect activity could sneak into northern Indiana. After that, high (pressure) and dry this afternoon until Wednesday night. Wind will be a story this week, but not the way it was last Friday. Gusty, mild breezes will blow up to 35 mph on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain is a pretty good bet for late Wednesday evening and Thursday, perhaps as much as in inch.
Imagine. One day you’re in the middle of a warm afternoon with temperatures in the mid 70’s, then hiding in horror from a twisting monster packing 200 mph. Three days later, you wake up to snow. Up to four inches on the ground this morning around Louisville and Lexington. That’s more than they had recorded all SEASON up until now. Blame to aforementioned clipper.
And say a prayer of thanks for Central Indiana, because, as was the case last Friday, the worst stayed south. Our official snow total was just .4 inches. That brings the seasonal snow total to 9.5 inches. The average snowfall for March, btw, is 2.6 inches. Will this be the month we are actually normal? Don’t bet the shovel. The 8-14 day outlook, which would take us just past St. Pat’s Day, is showing strongly “above normal” signals for temperatures. There is some speculation, unfortunately, that precipitation, including nasty thunderstorms, could also be above average heading into the Spring of 2012.
