Decreasing cloudiness across the state today, with a few lingering snow showers near South Bend. Highs will be around 30 in the Bend, 32 in Lafayette and Muncie, 33 in Anderson, 35 in Terre Haute and Indy, 36 in Bloomington, and 41 in Evansville. Highs will jump back above average tomorrow and stay there next week.
Significant shrinkage on with two weather fronts today: the clouds and the wind speeds. Yesterday’s peak wind gust of 44 mph came in the 7am hour, and the overall average wind speed for the day was 20.7 mph, which is the highest Indy had recorded since the middle of January. I was in a Downtown high rise with lots of windows Friday afternoon when the wind was whipping the flakes around, and it was quite a snow show. The city would suddenly disappear for a few seconds at a time.
It looked more impressive than it was, with just a trace of snow recorded, and I think it’s unlikely we will measure any more snow this month. Temps will head back above average tomorrow, and stay there all week. If we remain snow-free through March we could end up just making the list of Top Ten least-snowiest winter seasons.
If you’re going Kroger-ing today to stock up on snacks to watch the Daytona 500 you’ll want to know there is a chance of a few showers on race day. The high will be 69, with a 10-20 mph wind from the east. Best shower chance is the afternoon. Daytona! It must be just about time for Spring, right?
The highest temperature across the country yesterday was 91 in Stuart, Florida and the lowest was -8 in Stanley, Idaho.
INDY ALMANAC:
Average high today is 44, and the average low is 27. The record high of 76 was set in 2000. The record low of -7 was set in 1900. Weird, huh? Sunrise is at 7:25, and sunset at 6:32.
