It’s the first one-two punch of this winter season. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain is waiting in the wings on the heels of yesterday’s minor to moderate snowfall. Indianapolis officially only got to 0.6 inches. It snowed longer and stronger to the north. Here are some totals I compiled:
3.8″ Muncie
3.5″ Frankfort
3.5″ Lafayette
2.8″ Anderson
I had several reports of generally two inch totals around Carmel and Fishers.
More is coming later today, with the icy twist of freezing rain. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in place from 4pm Friday-5am Saturday. Areas from around Crawfordsville to Muncie northward will avoid most of the ice, getting mainly snow, and adding up 2-4 inches. South of Martinsville and Franklin, freezing rain and sleet will be the main travel trouble, with an inch or less of sleet piling up. In between, including Indianapolis, the dreaded mix is in the mix for late afternoon and tonight. Final totals of 1-3 inches of snow and sleet, along with some ice from freezing rain, can be expected. Saturday will be quiet, and Sunday is teasing us with promises of near-50 degree weather from Indy southward.
ALMANAC:
Average high in Indy today would be 36, and the average low 20. Record high is 70, and record low is -22. Sunrise is 8:02 and sunset is at 5:50. That means we’ve added about one-half hour of daylight onto the afternoon since Christmas-time.
