Back above average across the state today. Rain chances will spread from southern Indiana in the morning to central and northern Indiana by afternoon. Rain is likely statewide tonight. Winds could gust to 25 mph. A cold front approaches Tuesday, and cold air behind it should arrive around or just after lunch time. Temps will drop, and the precipitation will change to snow, but I’m not forecasting accumulation, at least outside of the Lake Michigan snow belt.
Even counting last week’s snow the Indianapolis seasonal total is only 5.0 inches. The average is 12.0 inches, and at this point last year we’d measured 23.6 inches. I read a study over the weekend that found (late in the first week of January) that 95% of the USA has below average snow cover. We are not alone.
Sunrise today is 8:04 am, and sunset tonight is 5:46. The average high/low combination in Indy today is 35 and 20. Records are 66 and -20.
