Timing The Weekend Storms

April 28, 2017

Low pressure in the Central Plains will push a warm front up over Indiana late this afternoon and tonight. Weak upper level weather disturbances emerging from the low to the west will make it rain at times throughout the weekend. Here’s the computer-modeled radar from one particular computer model from Friday evening through the final cold front arriving Sunday night.

A Flash Flood Watch is in place for southern Indiana from 8pm Friday through Saturday morning. Several inches of rain may fall.

Severe thunderstorms are also a threat tonight.

It appears the rain may let up for several hours Saturday afternoon after the initial wave. There is a chance of showers and storms again Saturday night. Again: storms Saturday could be severe, especially south and west of Indy.

After that: the showers and storms Sunday may hold up until late afternoon or evening. The big threat will switch from severe storms to heavy rain.

By the end of the weekend rain totals could reach 2-5 inches.
