I believe this will be the coldest November since 1976 in Indy, after looking at the next ten days and getting out my calculator. The November average temperature so far is 35.9 degrees. That’s 10.2 below average, and that’s the 6th coldest November on record. So far.
One other piece of Wiki-Poteetia: this could end up being the coldest month of this cold year, at least relative to average. Here are the coldest months this year, when compared to the monthly average:
-10.2 November
– 9.8 February
– 8.0 January
MICHIANA MISERY:
Lake Effect Snow will continue one more day around South Bend, mostly north of U.S. 6. SO far in South Bend this season: 17.1 inches. The average total at this point is 2.5 inches.
BUT IT COULD BE WORSE:
Here are some snow totals (yeah, that’s 65 inches) around Buffalo, New York this week. THIS WEEK. Imagine: that’s more than what Indy had the entire Winter of 2013-2014. They had that in a few DAYS.

BACK HOME AGAIN:
The broad trough of low pressure in the upper atmosphere pulls away today, but not before hanging around long enough to help create some clouds in the midday and afternoon, after a sunny start. Morning chills in the single digits, and afternoon chills in the teens. High pressure is right over the state tonight and tomorrow, leading to mostly clear weather, and (finally) lighter winds Friday.
A push of milder air is still on the table late Friday night into early Saturday morning. The temps at the surface will be cooler than just above the surface for awhile, and that could mean light freezing rain. The window is about midnight-7am around Indy, and midnight-9am in central Indiana north of Indianapolis.
The bigger shot at showers is Sunday, when rain is likely, and could total an inch by Monday when yet another cold front crashes a two-day party of milder temps.
