It’s clear to see the clouds today.
Isaac’s large satellite signature is moving up through Arkansas now, and the clouds ahead of it are spreading into the Ohio River Valley. And we will see those clouds increase in Indianapolis this afternoon, closing down a string of delightful days with bright skies and low humidity levels.
Outdoor Labor Day Weekend events clutter the IndyStar’s calendar, but a record-breaking drought is also ongoing. With a nod to Clint Eastwood let’s classify Isaac as “The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly.”
The center of the remnants of the Tropical Depression will move into Missouri Saturday and Illinois Sunday. The heaviest rain in central Indiana will come Saturday afternoon, Saturday Night, and Sunday. A general three to six rainfall is expected, with some locations possibly getting to 7 inches or a little higher. If Indianapolis makes it to seven inches that would wipe away the year-to-date rainfall deficit. Go ahead, Isaac – Make Our Day!
Despite the grand total’s similarities to the Labor Day record one-day rain of 2003, this event will be spread out over a couple of days and is not falling onto recently saturated surfaces.
Flooding IS still a possibility, as well as gusty winds up to around 30mph. Rain will trump thunder this weekend, but storms are still possible. Tropical system remnants can sometimes produce weak tornadoes, but at the moment the Storm Prediction Center is not indicating a severe risk for the weekend.
Scattered showers may still be around Monday, but the threat for heavy rain and steady stuff should diminish. Play Misty For Me!
Bottom line on the long weekend? Move those outdoor activities to today or Monday, and have a Plan B, as Mother Nature turns our plans Every Which Way But Loose.
