Indiana’s Weather For Tuesday

August 7, 2012

seven-day-indy-scaled

Our rainfall rate is above average! It wasn’t 90 degrees for two whole days! The weekend will be below average! I have discovered the exclamation point key!

If you were to put on statistical blinders, the Indianapolis rain situation would be just fine. Our month-to-date number is 1.51 inches. Average is 0.64. Of course, year-to-date we are still 9.35 inches behind. (Cue the Sad Trombone.)

Yesterday’s high of 89 in Indianapolis, combined with a high of 88 Sunday, meant that we had our first CONSECUTIVE days below 90…since June 25/26. Wow. What were we thinking?

It will be hotter today and tomorrow, but we are staying away from records and triple digits. And getting set for below normal highs from Friday through Monday. That would be our longest string of BELOW normal numbers since April. Sorry…I’ve got to hit the exclamation point again. again. Since April!!!!

The transition from hotter to colder could be bumpy Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center already has central Indiana in a slight risk for severe weather.

Rough weather elsewhere: Ernesto is expected to become a hurricane today. A warning has been issued along Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and Belize coast. And almost a half foot of rain fell in parts of eastern Tennessee, producing historic flooding. The Governor has declared a state of emergency.

Around central Indiana: another half inch of precip is possible Thursday and Friday, before the cooler, drier air arrives for the weekend.

A question from @futuregrace on Twitter: he noted the cooler temps late Monday night and said “that’s gotta be the lowest temp this summer. Am I right?” Might seem like it, but Indianapolis was officially down to 62 on August 4th, even lower than the Airport numbers this time around.

The last time if was in the 50s? Indianapolis hit 59 on June 27th, and believe it or not we were down to 48 on the morning of June 2nd, which was after Memorial Day, but seems like a 100 years ago. (Or a 100 degrees ago.)

Thanks for your question, @futuregrace…now on with the weather:)
