Indiana’s Weather For Friday

August 3, 2012

seven-day-indy-scaled

It was a DRY heat.

Thursday afternoon’s relative humidity at Indianapolis was in the teens. That was lower than Vegas, baby. VEGAS!

The city in the desert is going to 103 today. We’re “only” getting to the mid 90s. But it won’t be a dry heat anymore. Higher dew points are pushing in from the south, so today’s discomfort will go up gradually through the day, and steamy sunshine is Saturday’s story until storms steal the spotlight in the evening.

Storms Thursday night in southern Indiana racked up big precipitation totals. Click here for a radar rain analysis. Evansville’s Airport measured 2.31 inches. Most of that came in one hour. That’s the biggest one-day total in Evansville this year. It was almost as much as the city got the entire month of July, and more than they’d measured in the months of April, May, and June.

It never rains…it pours.

They’ll pour lots of lemon shake-ups today at the Fairgrounds. The State Fair starts with optimism over the second half of my 7 Day Forecast, where we see several days of “only” 90 degree weather next week.

There could be a few storms south of Indianapolis this afternoon, but for most of central Indiana the rain window opens again slightly late Saturday afternoon, and is wide open Saturday night. A few of those storms could be severe. Showers and storms could linger into Sunday morning, but should be gone by the afternoon, and it won’t be as hot. (Humidity will decrease Sunday night.)

If I were choosing days for Colts Camp in Anderson this weekend, I’d go with Sunday. I wish you, uh, Luck.

The Carribean King this weekend is named “Ernesto.” The Tropical Storm moved north of Barbados earlier today, heading for the Caribbean Sea, where it could become a hurricane. There are storm warnings for Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, St. Lucia, Martinique and Guadalupe.
