People sometimes say to me that it’s great to be a weather guesser. “What other job can you keep even when you’re wrong?”
How much time do you have? Economist, NBA Ref, those exit pollers in Wisconsin…
Speaking of them, in a political year you sometimes hear about the “margin of error” when it comes to surveys and polls.
We’re within that margin today for setting a record high. And if I’m *not* wrong today, it will be officially the hottest day of the year. The forecast is 94, the record is 97, and the peak of the heat so far was 93 this past Saturday.
We are just this side of a Heat Advisory, but the dew points are not quite high enough. Any little bit helps. The wind helped also yesterday. The peak gust was 31 mph. It should be around 20 mph today.
Of course, wind is NOT our friend when it comes to grass or mulch fires right about now. Countywide burn bans are in place in 28 Indiana counties. I’ve attached a map.
Six different really big burns remain out West. The one in Colorado is the third largest in the state’s history, affecting almost 57,000 acres. It is about 50% contained
Our hot southwest wind flow today is driven by air flowing counter-clockwise out of very strong low pressure in the upper Midwest.
That low will be busy. Severe storms are possible today in the Michigan U.P. back into northern Wisconsin, much of Minnesota, northwestern Iowa, extreme eastern South Dakota, and northeast Nebraska.
WIKI-POTEETIA:
Uniformly hot across the state yesterday. The high was either 91 or 92 in Indy, South Bend, Evansville, Bloomington, Lafayette, Muncie, Shelbyville, and Valpo. Today’s magic combo is probably 94/95.

The average high today is 83 and the average low is 63. Records are 97 and 48. Sunrise today is at 6:17 and the sunset time is 9:16.
