Another hot day across Indiana today. It won’t really be muggy until later tonight, but it won’t be quite as dry as yesterday. The relative humidity was down to 28% at one point in Indianapolis Saturday afternoon. That’s pretty low, but we can’t compete with Phoenix, which had a relative humidity of 7% yesterday.
The sky was beautifully blue, but some rain would also be attractive right about now. The year-to-date rainfall deficit for the city is 3.59 inches. One look at the 7 Day will show you: it’s Monday/Tuesday, or else. Another mostly sunny is just around the corner. And the latest 8-14 Day Outlook (covering June 17-23) signals temperatures generally above average, and precipitation generally below average.
There will be a prolonged period of precipitation today down South. It may lead to flooding across portions of the Central Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. Total rainfall of 6 to 8 inches, and locally more, will be possible through Sunday, especially across southern Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle where flooding has already been observed. Here’s a chart of the rainfall projection across the US from Sunday through Tuesday, and it includes more heavy rain in the Southeast. (Click for a larger version.)
Around here? Maybe a half inch…maybe a little more. It IS “likely” that we’ll have a couple of periods of SCATTERED showers and storms Monday into Tuesday morning, but it’s possible that some areas will see little or no rainfall.
Today’s highs around the state include 91 in South Bend, 90 in Lafayette and Muncie, 89 in Anderson. It should settle around 88 in Indy and Bloomington, and 86 in Evansville. Why will it be a little warmer to the north? Credit/blame clouds moving in through the day from the south.
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high for June 10 is 81 and the average low is 61. Records are 96 and 44. And so MUCH time for the sun to shine. Sunrise is 6:17 and sunset is 9:13, one minute later than yesterday.
UV INDEX:
9 (Very high.)
POLLEN COUNT:
Looks like Indy will stay in the “low-medium” category through Tuesday.
