I have a dreary theory. The more active the atmosphere is – the less active people want to be. Yesterday’s dreary weather certainly lived *down* to its advance billing. Indianapolis logged .33″ of rain and there was some thunder, especially south of the city. The top wind gust was 29mph, although it seemed higher to me when I was out in the morning *trying* to be active.
At least the active (read: “dreary”) weather will feature warmer air over the next few days. Indy will get closer to average today, and then above it for the entire work week. There will be plenty of clouds again today, with the best chance of showers late in the morning and again late in the afternoon, into the evening. It won’t be as windy. Severe weather could pop again in southwestern Indiana, south of Terre Haute and west of Bloomington, down toward Evansville. Thunder should be scare from Indianapolis northward.
These pesky precipitation chances are being driven by a frontal boundary in the area. Fronts typically divide air masses that are different with respect to temperatures or moisture. What kind of temperature differences? Indiana highs yesterday were 48 in Muncie, 52 in Indianapolis, 63 in Bloomington, and 82 in Evansville. That front will creep farther north today, and should put most of the state at least into the low 60s.
PP NETWORK HIGHS:
63 South Bend (where it should be mostly-partly sunny!)
63 Muncie/Marion (slight shower chance)
63 Lafayette (shower chances)
63 Anderson (shower chances)
64 Indianapolis (shower chances..maybe thunder)
Highs during the work week will be in the 70s and 80s, but you’ll see several days with story icons on the 7 Day Chart. Severe storms are possible in Indianapolis Monday as the warmer air arrives. Biggest threats are damaging wind and large hail. Power lines were blown down Saturday in Wheatland, an Indiana city in Knox county.
The levels have fallen from last week’s “High” to “Medium-High” and should stay there through Tuesday, returning to “High” on Wednesday.
The average high today is 68 and the average low is 47. Records are 86 and 31. Sunrise is 6:48 and the sunset time is 8:38.
