…Locally heavy rain and thunderstorms for parts of Texas into the
Southeast again on Tuesday…
…Much warmer temperatures return to the Northwest Tuesday and
Wednesday…
…Rain moves into the Midwest/Mid-Atlantic Tuesday into Wednesday…
A rather stationary frontal boundary remain over the southern Plains and
Southeast tonight into Tuesday. Warm and humid conditions along the Gulf
Coast will support areas of organized thunderstorms as well as scattered
showers/storms over the region for the next 24-48 hours or so. Some of
these thunderstorms may be severe, and the Storm Prediction Center has
noted a Slight Risk of severe weather from Texas eastward into the
Southeast on Tuesday. These storms may be capable of producing large hail,
damaging winds, and possibly a tornado. In addition, heavy rainfall with
these thunderstorms could cause locally heavy rain and flash flooding.
There is a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall and flash flooding for these
same areas tonight into Tuesday. Temperatures will remain cooler than
normal to the north of this frontal boundary (60s/70s) but will be warmer
than normal closer to the Gulf Coast (80s/90s and low 100s in South
Texas). Along and east of the Rockies, scattered showers and some
thunderstorms are possible Tuesday and again Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the frontal system will finally start to lift northeastward
into the Ohio Valley/Midwest. This will spread rain from southwest to
northeast, reaching as far west as the Great Lakes and as far east as the
northern Mid-Atlantic/New York State by Wednesday evening. Temperatures
will still be quite cool for the end of may to the north of a warm front
over the Carolinas. Highs will only be in the 60s where it rains most of
the day. Farther north, with more sunshine, temperatures over much of New
England will be into the 70s to near 80 degrees on Wednesday after a
stretch of cool weather.
Over the West, cooler temperatures today (Monday) will trend much warmer
for Tuesday and Wednesday. Readings will be 5-15 degrees above normal over
much of the region. Temperatures in the 70s to mid-80s on Tuesday will
rise further on Wednesday into the mid-80s (I-5 corridor) to low 90s
(interior). Highs on Wednesday will be slightly above normal over the
Southwest, with low 100s over the deserts. But the immediate coastal areas
will remain cooler (60s to low 70s).
