…Gusty winds in Northeast/Mid-Atlantic today…
…Snow across Lower Great Lakes today then Northern Rockies on
Wednesday…
…Critical Fire Weather Risk returns to Southern High Plains/Southwest
beginning Wednesday…
…Above average temperatures in the West and Central U.S.; cooler in the
East…
Northwesterly winds on the backside of a strong cold front will generate
some lake effect snow down wind of the Lower Great Lakes tonight through
Wednesday. Accumulations should remain modest with around 4-8 inches
possible for parts of Upstate New York/Adirondacks. Winds will pick up in
the wake of the aforementioned cold front across the Midwest, Northeast
and Mid-Atlantic beginning this afternoon. Wind advisories are in effect
for portions of the Central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic. Snow showers
will likely increase in coverage over the Northern Rockies beginning
Wednesday, leading to some moderate impacts for parts of west-central
Montana into northwestern Wyoming.
Mild, dry and gusty conditions will promote a Critical Fire Weather risk
across portions of the Southwest into the Southern High Plains beginning
on Wednesday. Elsewhere, cooler air filters into the eastern half of the
country behind the strong cold front tonight. Split flow in the West, with
an upper trough anchored over southern Canada and a closed low over the
Southwest Coast, should encourage ample warm southerly flow into the West
and Central U.S. over the next couple of days. High temperatures will
likely be 15-25 degrees above average, but aren’t likely to rival any
existing records.
