night into Tuesday…
…Light rain/freezing rain over parts of the Northern Plain, Upper
Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley on Sunday evening into
Monday; Light patchy rain/freezing rain over parts of Pennsylvania and
North Carolina on Monday evening into Tuesday…
…Temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees below average over the Northeast
and Mid-Atlantic…
High pressure over upstate New York on Sunday will move eastward to off
the New England Coast by Tuesday. The high pressure will bring
temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below average over the Northeast and
Mid-Atlantic.
Moreover, a wave of low pressure over the Upper Midwest on Sunday will
move eastward off the Northeast Coast by Tuesday evening. The system will
produce light snow over parts of the Northern Plains on Sunday evening.
Along the rain/snow line, areas of light rain/freezing rain will develop
over parts of the region through Monday night. On Sunday evening into
Monday, the storm will create light to moderate snow over parts of the
northern portion of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The snow will wind
down over Michigan on Monday evening into Tuesday. Early on Monday
morning, rain will develop over parts of the Ohio, Middle/Lower
Mississippi Valleys, and Southern Plains. Further, along the rain/snow
line, pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the Great
Lakes and Upper Mississippi Valley.
Overnight Monday, as the wave of low pressure moves into the Northeast,
light to moderate snow will develop over the region. Rain will develop
along the southern edge of the precipitation shield over parts of the
northern Mid-Atlantic. On Tuesday morning, along the rain/snow line,
pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop.
In addition, on Monday, return flow off the Gulf of Mexico will stream
moisture over the Southern Plains, producing showers and thunderstorms
overnight, Monday through Tuesday. Similarly, moisture off the Atlantic
will stream northward over the southern Mid-Atlantic, producing light rain
over the area Monday evening into Tuesday. Early on Tuesday morning, a few
pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of North Carolina.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, moisture associated with a dying front along the
West Coast will create light rain, higher-elevation snow over parts of the
Pacific Northwest, and light rain over Northern California. As the
moisture moves farther inland, light snow will develop over parts of the
Northern Intermountain Region overnight Sunday into Monday.
Overnight Monday into Tuesday, a front over the Eastern Pacific will move
onshore over the West Coast and into the Great Basin/Southern California
by Tuesday afternoon. The system will bring more moisture onshore,
producing light rain over the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.
As the front passes, rain will turn over to snow over parts of the higher
elevations of the Northwest and Northern/Central California on Tuesday.
