I’m asking weather forgiveness for the continue chill. How about a blanket pardon? An electric blanket pardon, of course.
Monday headlines:
– Unseasonably cold conditions will continue through most or all of the week.
– A few snow showers or flurries are possible today well southwest of Indianapolis.
– Brief warming trend next weekend into the 40s.
The weather maps show an Alberta Clipper that should move across southern Minnesota and eastern Iowa. This feature will then slide southeast across southwestern Indiana this afternoon and bring increasing clouds and even a few snow showers or flurries to southwestern parts of the area. The clipper will quickly move southeast of central Indiana late today and tonight and the broad trough itself will move into the Appalachians as a reinforcing shot of Arctic high pressure moves into the middle Mississippi Valley. A drying column per Hi-Res
soundings along with subsidence related to the high will allow skies to clear quickly tonight. However, would not completely rule out a few flurries or low coverage snow showers over northeastern sections associated with lake effect from Lake Michigan. Heads up around Muncie.
Temperatures remain below average all week. The closest we get is Wednesday. As the high pressure shifts east the winds will shift towards southerly with warm air advection aloft. Low pressure will cause sprinkles and/or drizzle to develop. The main impact with the passing system midweek will be the reinforced arctic airmass diving south Thursday and Friday, dropping temperatures back below freezing regionwide. In fact, Thursday may
be one of the coldest days of the season so far with highs struggling to get above the mid 20s with brisk northwest winds and wind chills in the single digits.
