…Moderate to heavy snow over parts of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and
Northern Intermountain Region/Northern Rockies with moderate snow over
parts of the Upper Midwest…
…Temperatures will be 10 to 25 degrees below average over the Northern
Rockies…
A front extending from the Northern High Plains, Great Basin, and Southern
California will move eastward to the Lower Great Lakes/Ohio Valley, Lower
Mississippi Valley, and then to the Western Gulf Coast by Monday evening.
A ridge of high pressure extending from Northwestern Canada will usher
cold air over parts of the Northern Rockies, bringing temperatures of 10
to 25 degrees below average.
The system will produce moderate to heavy snow over parts of the Northern
Intermountain Region/Northern Rockies through early Monday morning. In
addition, weak onshore flow off the Pacific will create coastal rain and
higher-elevation snow over parts of the Pacific Northwest and
Northern/Central California through Monday. The snow will be light to
moderate over the Sierra Nevada Mountains from Saturday evening into
Sunday evening. Additional upper-level energy will move over the region
from Sunday evening into Monday, producing moderate to heavy snow over the
Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Meanwhile, upper-level energy over the Northeast will produce light rain
over parts of the Lower Great Lakes and higher-elevation snow over the
Northeast from Saturday evening into early Monday morning.
On Sunday evening, as the wave of low pressure and associated upper-level
energy moves into the Upper Midwest, moderate snow will develop over parts
of the Upper Midwest, and rain will extend from the Great Lakes to the
Lower Mississippi Valley from Sunday evening into Monday.
