A small shower produced a brief landspout tornado to the west of Muncie in Delaware County on the evening of September 22. It appeared that the cell developed along a weak boundary extending to the west from where the landspout tornado occurred. A landspout is a tornado that does not arise from organized storm scale rotation and therefore is not associated with a wall cloud visually or a mesocyclone on radar. Landspouts often begin close to the ground and develop upwards. .Delaware County Landspout Tornado... Rating: EF0 Estimated Peak Wind: 60 to 65 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.0668 miles Path Width /maximum/: 10 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 09/22/2024 Start Time: 07:39 PM EDT Start Location: 3 NNW Yorktown / Delaware County / IN Start Lat/Lon: 40.2125 / -85.4942 End Date: 09/22/2024 End Time: 07:39 PM EDT End Location: 3 NNW Yorktown / Delaware County / IN End Lat/Lon 40.2127 / -85.4929 Survey Summary: A pole barn on Cammack Street sustained damage to portions of the west side of the building with the wall collapsed inwards. Structurally, little to no damage occurred to the frame of the building. There was mostly sheet metal that was blown inward into the building and outward back to the west. The remaining part of the metal building was not damaged. Additionally, no other damage was found to adjacent properties.
