Party’s (almost) over! One to three inches of rain are possible across parts of Indiana later Thursday into Friday. A few storms could also bring damaging thunderstorm wind gusts.
Today will likely be the warmest day of the week for Central Indiana as ridging builds over the region with warm air advection increasing in the lower levels. Surface high pressure responsible for the pleasant weather over the past few days shifts eastward today, resulting in winds becoming southeasterly this afternoon.
Tonight all eyes will be watching what happens with upstream convection in Iowa and Illinois. Expect a complex of convection to be ongoing late Wednesday night further west along a warm frontal feature extending southeastward from a low in SW Minnesota. The weather setup should support this convective complex sustaining itself somewhat throughout the night as it moves along the warm front/instability gradient into Illinois and Indiana by Thursday morning. The complex will be moving away from the best dynamics and likely will be weakening as it approaching Indiana sometime Thursday morning. Biggest chances are around Lafayette. This complex will likely fall apart Thursday morning as it crosses the state with Central, Southern, and Eastern portions of the state possibly remaining mainly dry. Higher confidence for heavy rainfall and storms increases late Thursday into Thursday night.
