Perfect Pole Day, with the wind being the only wild card this afternoon, gusting again to about 25 mph from the northwest. Today will be the warmest weekend day this month since the first day of the month. Remember that Sunday? The Indy high was 77 and we had some evening hailers.
Could we just do Carb Day and the Parade and the Race tomorrow and Tuesday? Indiana goes into a typical late spring setup starting Wednesday and it will last right through Memorial Day. A big trough in the southwest USA will eject several disturbances northeast across an increasingly warm…moist and unstable environment over the Ohio Valley and lower Great Lakes. That means it will be a little muggy, plenty warm, and occasionally stormy. However: there are signs that the upper trough will get deflected northward across the upper Missouri Valley next weekend as it encounters a strong eastern ridge of high pressure. This will keep the Plains frontal system to our west and so probably no *completely* rainy days. There will be windows around Terre Haute. Or somewhere. (Here’s the race day surface map.)
