An inch or two of snow could fall from today’s system around South Bend, and a dusting is possible just north of Lafayette to Kokomo to Marion. An early morning Weather Advisory was issued for the northeast corner of the state, where freezing drizzle was a threat. Icy roads were also reported around South Bend. The really heavy snow today will be falling for portions of the Southwest U.S. and southern Rocky Mountains on Wednesday. Valley locations can expect 3 to 6 inches of snow accumulations with higher elevations receiving near a foot in some locations. In addition, winds will be gusty leading to blowing and drifting snow. Snow stays scarce around here, although an inch or two is possible later Sunday and Sunday evening. It may begin with a rain/snow mix. Indy holds at 5.1 inches so far. (About 5 more inches fell two weeks ago just to the north of Indianapolis.) The official Indy total at this point last season was 32.2 inches, already well past our typical total for an entire season. The average to this point would be 13.5 inches. So for places like Boone, Hamilton, and Madison Counties, we aren’t too far below the average. But for everybody: this ain’t last Winter. The Winter so far, IS still below average on temps. However. This will be the sixth consecutive day with above average temps, but it won’t be as warm as yesterday’s big five-oh in Indy. It was also 50 in the Haute, 52 in Bloomington, 49 in Muncie, 44 in Lafayette, but only 38 in South Bend. INDY ALMANAC The average high today is 36 and the average low is 20. Records are 68 and -21. The sun rises at 8:02 and sets at 5:52. PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION Yesterday’s high was 50. My forecast was 48.
