Wednesday’s welcome rain came out at just the wrong time. Early morning drivers in the Indy metro area put their wipers on stun, while their headlights competed with lightning flashes. Power outages were reported in Marion, Hamilton, Jay and Grant counties. There was no severe weather, but it broke an eight-day dry streak in Indianapolis. It was the biggest rain since July 14.
And yesterday’s heat was the hottest since June 23rd. We haven’t been able to get pas 88 yet this summer in Indy. Yesterday was the third time it’s happened.
It won’t happen again for the rest of the month. The cold front causing the storms will move to the south of the Indy metro area by afternoon. Highs today will struggle to get to 80, and the humidity will dive again tonight. Highs will be the 70s, with nice weather Thursday and Friday.
The weekend still looks warmer and more humid, with storm chances. The precipitation will be more widespread Saturday as a warm front approaches early. Scattered showers and storms are still possible for Sunday, mainly in the afternoon. The heat will race out of town post-Brickyard, leaving us in the 70s yet again Monday and Tuesday of next week.
