Today’s temps should be as high as they’ve been in a month, and may get to the biggest number of the year so far. Don’t get used to it. And don’t be surprised by that. The National Weather Service crunched the numbers for the first 200 days of the year and found Indy’s average temperature tied for the 5th coolest on record, and the coolest since 1979.
That’s for the entire year to date. For the month to date it’s the coolest July on record. In fact, today is only the third time this month where I expect an above normal temperature for the day.
A cold front approaches from the northwest late tonight and brings a chance of showers by mid evening in Lafayette. That chance will spread to all of central Indiana overnight. A shower chance will remain in the Wednesday morning forecast, but don’t stop watering your flowers. Amounts will be less than a quarter of an inch, and only isolated thunder is expected.
Humidity starts cratering again Wednesday afternoon and evening, and Thursday and Friday will be nice, once again settling to around 5 degrees below average.
The weekend still looks more humid and unsettled, with fronts on the ground, and chances of showers and storms both days. I think the better chance is Saturday, with Brickyard “400” highs in the low to mid 80s.
