A muggy Monday morning with some hazy sunshine gives way to scattered storms in the afternoon. Those storms will become more likely tonight and tomorrow as a cold front slices into our unstable environment. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 80s in Lafayette, Muncie and Richmond, and near 90 in Indianapolis. The high should reach 90 in Terre Haute and Bloomington.
Indy and Lafayette have yet to make it to 90 officially. The month so far has featured above normal temperatures for about a week, then it went to near or below normal for ten day, and now we’re getting the eight consecutive above average day. That translates into a slightly warmer than average June so far.
Severe weather has been generally quiet this month, but once again last night an isolated funnel cloud made news. (The same thing happened near Hoosier Park in Anderson last week.) Several observers on the east/southeast side of Kokomo snapped shots of the slender, rope-like cloud that stayed high sky for a few minutes.
No severe weather is expected with today and tomorrow’s storms, but it is “Lightning Awareness Week,” which is probably a good time to remind you that every thunderstorm by definition contains lightning, which is always a hazard, whether or not a storm is severe.
We should be in-between storms this week Wednesday and much of Thursday. The humidity will be down a notch, and temps will be close to average. The storm chance returns Thursday evening into Friday. It might still be around Saturday – that’s a little hazy for now. And it will be more than a little hazy next weekend. Humidity and heat look to make a big comeback.
