More thunderstorms will be scattered around central Indiana today. The best chance will be Indy northward in the morning, and throughout the area this afternoon. Scattered storms will pull away to the east and southeast early this evening. Expect more clouds on average today versus yesterday, so that should hold the highs down to the low to mid 80s. Although the Storm Prediction Center doesn’t have us in a slight storm risk for today there is certainly the chance of heavy rainfall again, due to our sluggish upper air winds and plenty of moisture at the surface.
I’ve had several social media questions regarding the DMB shows this weekend. There is a slight chance tonight for a lingering shower or storm. Saturday night’s all right, for the most part. Our next storm chance could arrive by sunset to the north and northwest part of the state, but probably not until around midnight in central Indiana. Check your radar app during Dave’s encores. Hopefully Matthews will have the same weather luck that Brad Paisley did Thursday night.
There’s also a slight chance of storms Sunday as one more push of hotter and stickier air arrives. That translates to about 90 again Monday before storms become likely Tuesday, followed by sweet relief Wednesday, with lower heat and humidity.
Yesterday’s thunderstorms produced multiple sightings of a funnel cloud near Hoosier Park in Madison County. A funnel was also sighted near Markleville in Henry County. The National Weather Service wouldn’t confirm the touchdowns, and will investigate the minor damage today for clues. Madison County Emergency Management reported a tornado “on the ground with rotation” about 3:45 p.m. on State Road 236 between County Road 200E and County Road 300E apparently southeast of Hoosier Park. They say the tornado traveled southeast out of Madison County and into Markleville.
Tipton reported flash flooding, and a 60 mph wind gust with a storm there, and portions of highway 35 in Randolph County were closed by flash flooding. Radar estimates indicate another FIVE inches of rain in some locations. Flash flooding was reported late in the afternoon in Lebanon and the western part of Carmel. Flooding was also reported in Zionsville, and Delaware counties.
