The terrible, taxing Winter of 2013-2014 has filed an extension. The average April 15th low temperature in Indianapolis is 43. Our *high* today will be cooler than that. It will only be in the upper 30s in Muncie and Richmond. Highs will be right around 40 in Lafayette and Indy, and into the low 40s to the south. Wind chills most of the day will stay in the 20s.
Did you still see snow when you woke up? Indy had its first measurable April snowfall since 2001. The 0.1 inch snowfall means the “snow year” (July-June) total for Indianapolis is now 55.5 inches. Cold air is being driven by a northwest wind today gusting to 25 mph.
That wind coming off Lake Michigan whipped up morning Lake Effect snow showers that are possible through the morning commute north of Indy.
Expect more sunshine by afternoon, with high pressure right overnight tonight. That will help clear the skies, It will also settle the big breeze, and contribute to frost. Southern Indiana has a freeze warning. Not because it will be colder than central Indiana, but because the “growing season” had officially begun in that area.
April Fools!
