Spring sunshine and spring sirens today. The Vernal Equinox arrives at 12:57 pm and high pressure will bring dry weather for the big event. Highs will range from the upper 40s in Muncie to mid 50s in Terre Haute.
The sirens will come from the annual Statewide Tornado Test Drill. It’s part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week. The test tornado warning will be issued between 10:15 am and 10:30 am, and again from 7:30 and 7:45 pm.
Let’s talk fronts. Yesterday’s cold front brought spotty showers, and gusty winds. The peak gust in Indy reached 39 mph. The next front is a warm one moving through after midnight tonight. It will bring a slight shower chance from Indy northward. That’s followed by a cold front Friday night. That brings rain and then highs in the 40s Saturday. A secondary cold front knocks us down to the 30s Sunday through the middle of next week. We’ll add moisture to the mix Monday night and Tuesday, and there could be a little light snow. (Spring snow, of course.) Should we sound the sirens for that?
WIKI-POTEETIA:
The National Weather Service sorted through it’s database of Vernal Equinox stats that date back to 1871, and found the coldest high temperature ever was 18, in 1885. The record low is 3. From the same lousy day in 1885. You probably don’t remember that, but you might remember when the record high of 83 was set two years ago.
INDY ALMANAC:
Today’s average high is 54 and the average low is 34. Records are 83 (again, from two years ago) and 3. The sun rises at 7:49 and sets at 7:57.
PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION:
Yesterday’s high was 53. My forecast was 53.
