Glance at this week’s weather pattern and you may be tempted to blame a bi-polar vortex.
The up-down starts today, with the warmest weather in over two weeks. Technically, it’s also the first above-average temperature day in over two weeks. (Last Friday’s 50+ high temps were dragged down by a chilly start.) Whatever. It’ll be nice! You will notice breezes up to 30 mph in the afternoon. Highs will be around 60 in Lafayette, Indy, and Richmond. Expect the upper 50s in Kokomo and Muncie, and it could get to about 64 in Bloomington.
One more mild day Tuesday, as a cold front slips slowly through the state. That will open up a range of highs from the mid 50s to mid 60s, and help set the stage for a mid-week crash.
Low pressure moves up the Ohio River Tuesday night and Wednesday, and all winter breaks loose. I think we’ll see rain Wednesday night, switching to snow overnight as temps fall. Snow will be around Wednesday morning and midday, and should end from west to east during the afternoon. Because of the low’s placement, the heaviest snow is likely to be in the northeastern third of the state. Muncie could get to around 4 inches by Wednesday night. For much of central Indiana the range should be closer to 1-3 inches. From Bloomington to Columbus the totals should be more like an inch.
We follow that with a very cold Wednesday night, and chilly Thursday. Then: back up! At least for a couple days before… back down! I don’t see any further big storms through the weekend, but the passage of another cold front may cause showers to eventually appear in the Saturday forecast.
