March marches on, with below normal temperatures and a few flurries today. An upper level wave could bring snow showers to Lafayette and Kokomo and Muncie northward. Up to an inch could fall in the Michiana area around South Bend.
How…cold…is…it? The attached chart plots the temperatures for the start of this month, relative to average. Virtually all of the country east of the Rockies is below average, with the Plains getting hit the hardest. The Great Lakes are 91% ice-covered. That’s the most ever at this late date, although that particular measurement only dates back to 1980. Atlantic City had a record March low this week. And parts of Texas are still recovering from an ice storm. Cold enough for ya?
Our next precipitation should be mainly liquid, on Saturday. A cold front at the surface will be followed by an upper air system Saturday night, and it may be cold enough for the precip to finish with a flurry.
Another storm next Tuesday looks (for the moment!) all wet.
